Weekly Wants: Girl’s Room

This past week I’ve really been focusing on getting the girl’s bedroom done. I feel like every room in our house is 75% complete, and it’s driving me crazy. It also seems like everyone I know that was pregnant recently has had their baby 3-4 weeks earlier than expected, so I’m starting to panic.  I’ve decided it’s time to finish that room…even though the baby won’t be sleeping in there right away. But I want it completed for Payton!

So far all we have in there is an IKEA crib, an IKEA toddler bed, a Campaign dresser (sold out in white) and a swivel glider from Bassett. I’ve already removed all the decor we had from when it was just Payton’s room and so it looks very white! White furniture and white walls…so boring.

I’ve known I wanted to do a green/blue theme in there for a while, and knew I needed to start with a large print. I tend to gravitate towards tropical/beachy themed prints, so that’s where I started looking. When I found the print I chose, I knew it was the one. Being born in Miami and spending a lot of time at the beach, I’ve always had a love for the brightly painted lifeguard stands. So I felt like having that in the girl’s room would be like having a bit of my past in there that I can share with them one day. I was able to download the picture in a high resolution and get it printed by CanvasPop for an insanely affordable price. And it’s 55″ x 30″ which will fill up the large blank wall perfectly.

Since the print isn’t very “nursery” like, I decided I wanted to do another set of prints that would look a little more whimsical for the wall by the crib. I knew I wanted to keep with the beach theme, so I got on Etsy and looked for some fish prints. When I found the watercolor ocean prints I instantly fell in love. So I ordered the set of 4 and plan to place them in some gold 8′ x 10′ frames I already have.

Next came picking out a new rocker for the room. I love the one we have now, but it’s a glider and a rocker and it just takes up way too much room. So we plan to move that one to our bedroom where the baby will be sleeping, and get a new one for the girl’s room. My mom had bought an Eames inspired rocking chair for their house that I love, but with my husband being 6’3″, I didn’t think he’d find it very comfortable. I set out to find one similar but higher, and found the perfect chair. It’s called the TA Rocking Chair and is about 5-6 inches higher than all the Eames inspired chairs I found.

Lastly, I needed a rug to put in the middle of their room. I had a hard time with this choice, as I knew I’d be ordering from online. I found these Lorena Canals washable rugs and fell in love, but sadly they’re just a little above my budget. So I’ll either wait for them to go on sale, or I’ll have to find something comparable! Same with the pillows! But the two pictured are exactly what I’m looking for, just at half the price. I’m sure I’ll be able to find those on Society6 though.

Can’t wait to share pictures of their room once everything arrives!

Thank for reading!
